Wolf Advocating Company

Wolves in Russia need advocates because:

  • They are not protected by law;

  • All methods of killing are permitted to control wolves, including those prohibited for other species of game animals;

  • The present Russian wolf control system has no logical, economic or conservation basis.

The main aims of WAC are:

  • Prohibition of the use of poison to kill wolves;

  • Abolition of the bounty system;

  • Replacement of the current inefficient wolf control system with a wolf management plan based on scientific research;

  • Formulation of guidelines for successful rehabilitation into the wild of wolf pups taken from their dens for bounty;

  • Introduction of new methods of livestock protection

The Projects.

The work of WAC concentrates on three main projects:

Wolf- human interaction;

Research on numbers of livestock killed by wolves and numbers of wolves killed by hunters, development of an effective livestock protection system and collection of data about the current wolf control system.

Wolf ecology and behaviour;

Research on wolf ecology to achieve a better understanding of the situation of the wolf in Russia and provide a basis for work to further the aims of WAC.

Wolf pup rehabilitation program;

Rescue of wolf pups taken from their dens by hunters and development of an effective method of reintroducing them into the wild, which could be used by other projects, for example breeding programs for endangered wolf subspecies

Why do we need WAC?

There is currently no organization concerned with Russian wolf management. Vladimir Bologov is one of several wolf specialists in Russia. He founded the WAC as it would be impossible for him to realize all the aims of the WAC independently.

Organizations, researchers, students, volunteers and friends can all contribute to the WAC by collecting information to gain a better understanding of the wolf’s situation in Russia, or by helping to raise financial support.

WAC membership

The WAC is a non-profit organization founded on 30th October 2003 to unite people who support the main aims. Anyone, whether expert, student or simply a friend, who supports the aims, can join. Any active, financial or ideological support is appreciated. Each member will receive a certificate and a copy of the annual report. The report will contain the names and numbers of members, funds received and how they have been used, the results of WAC’s activity, successes and problems and news and programs for the following year. It will also contain a wolf pup section with pictures and news regarding their development.
